Ludhiana: The Division 5 police, on Tuesday, registered a case against a private agent at mini secretariat for cheating and forgery. The agent, who is yet to be identified, allegedly forged a no objection certificate (NOC) related to traffic challans.
The FIR has been lodged on the statement of joint commissioner of police (city) Deepak Pareek. The city police started the probe after receiving an email from Insurance Corporation British Columbia.
The email stated that Nirmal Kumar Sharma, a resident of Civil Lines who at present lives in Canada, had applied for a driving licence. For the licence, he was asked to submit an NOC issued by the Ludhiana Police stating that there is no pending challan against Sharma.
Sharma submitted the NOC with the authorities concerned. He said it was issued to him by the Ludhiana authorities on May 20, 2020. However, when Insurance Corporation British Columbia cross-checked with the city police, it was found that no such NOC was issued to Sharma.
Division 5 police station ASI Gurcharanjit Singh said, “Senior officials conducted a probe and found that the local authorities had earlier issued him the NOC, but the document submitted by Sharma was forged. It was also found that Sharma’s cousin had approached a private agent in the mini secretariat who had provided them forged documents claiming it to be original.”
