Ranchi: North Chhotanagpur divisional commissioner Dr Nitin Madan Kulkarni will fill in as the interim vice-chancellor of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU). Kulkarni will take over after the incumbent V-C Dr Satya Narayan Munda completed his tenure on Wednesday. Munda completed a three-year term at the helm of the varsity after his appointment in May 2018. On his last day in office, DSPMU V-C Munda said he ran the university smoothly with the cooperation of teachers and the students. He said, “I did my best to solve the problems of both students and teachers. Several new courses, including public administration, mass communication and journalism, fine arts and music, were started during my tenure,” Munda said, adding that he plans to write a book on anthropology in future. A press statement issued by the office of Governor Ramesh Bias said, “The governor has asked the North Chhotanagpur division commissioner to discharge the responsibilities till a regular V-C is appointed. The process for appointment of the V-C is underway.” Official sources said steps have also been taken up for the appointment of regular V-Cs in Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University (BBMKU) in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur Women’s University in Jamshedpur and Ranchi University (RU). A committee in this regard has been formed while applications are being sought from aspirants. The RU’s day-to-day affairs are currently being looked after by acting V-C Dr Kamini Kumar. The three-year tenure of the current V-C in BBMKU, Anjani Kumar Srivastava, will end soon. In Jamshedpur Women University, V-C Shukla Mohanty has retired.
