- During the press conference on Thursday, the 69-year-old admits that he wants Percy Tau to find a new club where he plays regularly.
- Tau has been on Brighton's books since 2018.
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has publicly revealed that he wants star forward Percy Tau to leave Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion for regular playing time.
The Mamelodi Sundowns product helped the Brazilians win every title on offer during his time at the club, except the MTN8. He won the CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup, Premiership title, Nedbank Cup and the Telkom Knockout.
That all happened in just under two years before Brighton signed the player up for an undisclosed fee.
The English outfit then loaned Tau out to three Belgium clubs over a two and a half year period.
Tau did so well in Belgium that he returned to England earlier this year at the start of January as ordered by Brighton coach Graham Potter.
The downside of ending his loan spell is that the 26-year-old Secunda-born forward has been warming the substitutes bench for the majority of his stay back at the English club.
Speaking to the media on Thursday during the naming of the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Broos wants all players selected for the national team to be playing regularly at their clubs.
"I hope that the players who are in Europe that they are playing," said Broos in Johannesburg.
"There are already a few players who changed clubs. Hopefully, for them, it's a good thing and that in their new clubs they can play more.
"Because otherwise also, I heard the critics already in May when I came here (asking) 'why are the players in Europe not selected' if you don’t play.
"I hope that will change also and that we can really select players who are playing most of the games in their clubs. You see, there are a few with us, like (Sphephelo) Sithole he is playing in Belenenses."
Broos hopes that Tau will make a move next, with reports linking him to Egypt to reunite with former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane.
"Percy Tau, I hope, I hope he can leave Brighton and that he can go to a (new) club," he said.
"There is talk about Egypt, Pitso who is in Al Ahly; it should be a very good thing for him because there he has a coach who knows him."
South Africa travel to neighbours Zimbabwe for a tricky World Cup qualifier on Friday, 3 September (15:00) in Harare before returning home to take on African giants Ghana at FNB Stadium on Monday, 6 September (18:00).
