Bangladeshi Hefazat-e-Islam chief dies

Dhaka, Aug 19 (UNI) Junaid Babunagari, the chief of hardline Islamist organisaion of Bangladesh Hefazat-e-Islam died on Thursday. He was 68.

According to reports, Babunagari suffered a stroke at the Hathazari Madrasa in Chattogram in the morning and later died in a hospital in Chattogram.

Hefazat-e-Islam had been accused of large-scale arson and violence in the country during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh in March this year.

The government of Bangladesh took a tough stance against the leaders of the Hefazat-e-Islam. Dozens of its important leaders including many from the central committee were arrested for their involvement in the violence and conspiracy in the country.
