West Bromwich Albion went top of the early season Championship table as they battered Sheffield United at The Hawthorns.

In a meeting of two of last season's relegated Premier League teams, Albion's physical dominance showed they have so far adjusted better to life back at this level under new boss Valerien Ismael.

Three of Albion's four goals came from aerial set pieces, triggered just as they were against Luton on Saturday by a headed opening own goal from a Darnell Furlong long throw.

After Jack Robinson's own goal, an error from Dutch keeper Michael Verrips on his first league start then led to an early second-half goal for Dara O'Shea before summer signing Alex Mowatt bagged a third six minutes later.

And, when another Furlong throw led to Callum Robinson's third goal in four games on 59 minutes, that was enough to take the Baggies above Fulham at the top on goal difference.

    If West Brom keep doing that to teams they will be unstoppable. I’m not sure Sheffield Utd, could really do anything for the 1st 20 mins of the 2nd half, there was just no answer to relentless harassment from the Baggies, it was outstounding.

    Watched the game and tbh, West Brom totally battered Sheffield United... but really, they should have had 6 or 7 goals. So despite the scoreline, I think Albion still need a proper centre forward if they want to get promoted.

    As for the Blades. They need about 8 first team players.

    Sheff Utd have had a poor start to the season, but you can see the quality is there. Its just not happening at the moment for them. I still expect them to be challenging for automatics once things start to click for them

    Slav had a slow start with us but Sheff United do need goals .

    It is quite remarkable how quickly it's all fallen to bits for Sheffield United. A team that added up to something much greater than the sum of its parts under Chris Wilder now amounts to.... the sum of its parts.

    I'm sure they'll stay up with no problem whatsoever, but I think at least a few seasons in the Championship beckons.

      Might be very premature but it does remind me a bit of Mick McCarthy’s Wolves team from about a decade ago - a group of players who are very good at playing a certain way, but take those tactics from them and suddenly they look distinctly mediocre.

      Still, very early days though - plenty of teams have made poor starts in this league and recovered strongly in the past.

    Jokanovic struggled in his first season at Fulham and we nearly went out of the championship.

    Second season…. Promotion.. stick with him.

    And…. I hope this thread has less comments removed than the Fulham one last night when the whole HYS was obliterated.
