New Delhi, August 17
CM Capt Amarinder Singh will host the parliamentary committee on subordinate legislation, chaired by Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa, for dinner on August 19, when the panel begins its two-day visit to Chandigarh to review the implementation of waste management rules framed under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
The delegation also consisting of Rajya Sabha MPs — NCP’s Vandana Chavan, BJD’s Amar Patnaik, Congress’ Vivek Tankha, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and BJP’s GVL Narsimha Rao — will meet Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, who will host a lunch for the committee.
The panel will hear depositions from chief secretaries of Punjab, Haryana and from the UT Administration on waste management rules apart from meeting with the DGPs. The panel, it is learnt, will also take a briefing on the narcotics situation in the region, before leaving for Kasauli on August 22, where it will assess waste management rule implementation with Himachal Pradesh Government officials. — TNS
