Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Irvin Khoza said that he is open to the idea of introducing Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) to South African football but admits the costs might be prohibitive.
'Iron Duke', as he is known in the football fraternity, was responding to calls introduce the system following an outcry over decisions made in the MTN8 this past weekend.
Itumeleng Khune needed two opportunities to save Lyle Lakay's penalty in their shootout, although video replays clearly showed the ball had crossed the line.
Kennedy Mweene, meanwhile, made four saves to win the tie, but was thought to have come off his line early for at least three of their kicks.
Keletso Makgalwa also had a goal incorrectly ruled out for off-sides in Swallows' defeat of Orlando Pirates.
Khoza said: "There are certain elements of the VAR system, one of them are the video assistant referee, virtual off-side line and goal-line technology. Now is the issue of phasing it, which comes first.
"Are there issues with goal-line problems we need to address first or is if off-sides?
"But like I said last time, it's a question of doing an audit about the infrastructure [and] if this VAR is going to be centrally controlled or decentralised.
"There was a discussion about it, obviously in the next joint committee meeting because the issues with referees reside with SAFA but there's a cost factor that foes with it which must be factored into the discussion."
