New Delhi, August 17

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced Col Ajay Kothiyal (retd) as party’s chief ministerial candidate in Uttarakhand, where elections are scheduled to be held in February-March next year.

Colonel Kothiyal was earlier nominated by AAP to contest the Gangotri Assembly byelection against CM Tirath Singh Rawat in the BJP-ruled state. AAP national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who held a roadshow in Dehradun today, said, “People want a break from politicians who have only looted the state. They want an Army man as their CM who doesn’t misuse his office but serve them.” Kejriwal said his party would soon announce the first list of candidates. He said under Kothiyal’s leadership, AAP would make Uttarakhand the global spiritual capital of Hindus and open avenues of employment for the state’s youth. — TNS
