Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was rewarded with the civil aviation portfolio in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Council of ministers after a reshuffle last month, on Wednesday said that his Ministry has been operated 44 new flights in the last 35 days from Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier this month, Scindia had said that 8 of these flights would be under UDAN scheme while his predecessor Hardeep Puri had said that government has set a target of operationalising 100 unserved and underserved airports.
However, the Centre’s UDAN scheme focuses on connecting smaller airports to metros and other cities.
Scindia, who joined the BJP last year in March after a 19-year career in the Congress, said that the flights are taking off from Jabalpur to Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Hyderabad and Kolkata. From August 20, flights will start from Jabalpur to Delhi and Indore, he said.
Jyotiraditya Scindia is now the Civil Aviation Minister in the PM Modi cabinet which reshuffled last month. The portfolio was once handled by his father, Madhavrao Scindia.
Speaking to the reporters during his visit to Indore, Scindia said he is dedicated to take India forward in the civil aviation sector under the leadership of the Prime Minister. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda for believing on him.He is ready to serve the people, Scindia said.
Scindia had took over the charge of Commerce and Industry ministry during UPA-II between 2009 and 2012. for that time he was, he was also in charge of the power ministry.
Right after the Congress defeat in the 2019 general elections, Scindia had moved to the BJP with 22 loyalists in March 2020. Later, he was rewarded by the BJP with a Rajya Sabha seat.

The Civil Aviation Ministry which is being hold by Scindia has posed several challenges for the sector at a time when the Covid restrictions on travel have put in place.
The hospitality industry and travel sector has been brought to a grinding halt and airlines are struggling to survive as flights have drastically reduced all over the world.
