Hyderabad: It has been a common practice in the past to have the complainant make a pillar to register his post. However, after the famous Shamshabad case, the DGP Mahendra Reddy introduced a zero FIR system where the complainant can submit his FIR to any police station regardless of the location of the incident.
According to the system, the police officers of any police station register the FIR and issue his copy to the complainant while transferring the case to the relevant police station for investigation and action.
After effectively implementing the police for some time, the police officers are now back to their old ways of practicing the complainants cold, and of registering their FIRs, on the grounds that the incident did not take place in their jurisdiction.
The latest case of such a police attitude took place in the Mahabubnagar district. The victims of a high-profile rape case wanted to register their FIR at the Mahabubnagar Town police station. The police officers there did not want to file their FIR with reference to the jurisdiction issue and advised them to approach the relevant police station.
The rape incident took place at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, where the patient accompanied his wife and sister-in-law. A hospital employee and other people are accused of raping the patient’s wife and his sister-in-law.
The victims approached their indigenous police station on Monday where they were advised to go to the relevant police station. The victims eventually registered their FIR in the Chilkalguda police station, and a copy of the FIR was released to them last night.
In another incident, police took a driver after the accident and then told the charge that the place did not fall within their jurisdiction. Police advised the driver to go to the Bachupally police station. When the complainant went to the Bachupally police station, the officer did not register his FIR and told him to come on Sunday.
These two incidents fully show that there is a lukewarm response to the implementation of the zero FIR system by the police officers and they are back to their old ways of avoiding FIRs.
