"On humanitarian grounds, the (Basavaraj) Bommai government is with Afghans living in Karnataka. Issues relating to visas come under the purview of the central government. Surely, our government will talk to the central government and make all efforts to protect the Afghans in whatever manner possible," the home minister told reporters here.
There are as many as 339 Afghans living in the state, and out of which as many as 192 of them are students, Jnanendra said and added that some of them have brought to the notice of the authorities the expiry of their visas. As a result, they are in a spot of bother.
"Therefore, they are seeking extension of their visas to stay until the situation improves in Afghanistan. You must also have heard university vice chancellors talking about it in the media," he said.
Afghanistan is facing a political crisis after Ashraf Ghani, the ex-Afghanistan president, fled the country hours before the Taliban captured Kabul.
