Real estate heir Robert Durst said in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday that he would lie under oath rather than admit killing someone, but that he had not lied during five days of testimony while on trial for the murder of his friend Susan Berman. Durst, part of a prominent New York real estate family, is formally charged in Los Angeles County Superior Court with killing Berman, his long-time confidante, in 2000 in her Beverly Hills home. Los Angeles prosecutors are also arguing Durst killed Berman to help cover up the murder of his wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, who went missing without a trace nearly 40 years ago in New York.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. Republican Senator John Cornyn has deleted a tweet in which he said wrongly that the United States currently has 30,000 troops stationed in Chinese-claimed Taiwan, a claim that spurred Chinese media to call him a "dotard." Cornyn included the statistic late on Monday in a tweet about the numbers of U.S. troops based around the world "today," including in Afghanistan before the final withdrawal of U.S. forces from that country, which is now under Taliban control. The U.S. military did have forces in Taiwan before the United States formally established ties with communist China in 1979.

More than a hundred Australian citizens left the Indonesian tourist island of Bali on Wednesday aboard a special repatriation flight organized by the Australian government. Many Australians have been stranded on Bali because flights connecting Indonesia to Australia have been limited since the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia. “This Qantas flight is assigned for Australian citizen repatriation which will take it to Darwin,” airport public relations manager Taufan Yudhistira said Wednesday.
