AFC Cup: Subhasish Bose, Roy Krishna score as ATK Mohun Bagan defeat Bengaluru FC 2-0 to begin continental challenge: Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK Mohun Bagan began their AFC Cup campaign with a clinical 2-0 win over Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC at the National Stadium, in the Maldives on Wednesday. Left-back Subhasish Bose and star Fijian striker Roy Krishna netted the two goals in the Group D match.
ATK Mohun Bagan were the dominant side throughout the match, creating more chances even though they had less ball possession. The first goal came at the 39th-minute mark from ATK Mohun Bagan’s Roy Krishna. His header from the center of the box to the high center of the goal. It was assisted by Subhasish Bose following a corner.

The teams went to the halftime break with ATK Mohun Bagan leading 1-0. It did not take long for the Mariners to double the lead as they scored right after halftime. Subhasish Bose took an excellent touch in the box and finished it past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to make the score 2-0 for ATK Mohun Bagan.
Bengaluru FC did show signs of a comeback in the last quarter of the match, but they were stopped by the rock-solid Mohun Bagan defence. They had 68% possession in the match and managed 12 shots with 3 on target.
Mohun Bagan made really good chances and finished them well also. They had just 32% of the ball with a total of 11 shots and 5 on target.

Bengaluru FC’s new coach Marco Pezzaiuoli made two changes to the side that defeated Club Eagles, as Naorem Roshan Singh and Ajay Chhetri replaced Ashique Kuruniyan and Rohit Kumar. The Mariners, who had a busy summer transfer window, handed debuts to Amrinder Singh, Hugo Boumous and Deepak Tangri, while fellow new signings Liston Colaco, Bidyananda Singh, Ashutosh Mehta, Ricky John Shabong, Abhishek Suryavanshi and Kiyan Nassiri found themselves on the bench.
Bengaluru FC (India), ATK Mohun Bagan (India), Bashundhara Kings (Bangladesh), and Maziya S&RC (Maldives) will lock horns in Group D. The Group D fixtures of AFC Cup 2021 will be held at the Maldives National Football Stadium in Male, Maldives. All four teams will face each other in a round-robin format across three days on August 18, 21, and 24 whilst the group leaders will advance into the single-leg Inter-Zone Semi-Final.
