Tottenham have left Harry Kane at home for their Europa League Conference trip to Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira as speculation continues to swirl around his future at the club.

The club's star forward has not played for the team under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo after returning from a holiday in the Carribbean and has faced scrutiny over claims he refused to return from training amid links to Manchester City.

Kane - who has since clarified there had been a breakdown in communication - was not selected in the matchday squad to face the Premier League champions in the opening day clash - which Spurs won 1-0 - as he steps up his match fitness, and recently underwent his first session of the season at Hotspur Way this week.

Sportsmail revealed last night that the England captain feels chairman Daniel Levy has broken a promise to allow him to leave the club this summer amid increasing tensions between the pair. 

Sources close to the 28-year-old claim he feels Spurs have not matched his lofty ambitions, though he will continue to give us all when called upon to rebuild his trust with the supporters.

Kane was a huge doubt for the game in Portugal on Thursday - the club's first game in the newly-launched UEFA competition - with Espirito Santo planning to leave him behind so he can continue working on his fitness ahead of Sunday's trip to Wolves.

He made his long-awaited return to training this week after finishing a period of isolation following his holiday at a hotel at the club's training ground. 

Kane underwent a solo session on Monday while his team-mates recovered from their win over City before joining the rest of his team-mates on Tuesday. 

He still has his heart set on a move to Manchester City - who have already made a bid of £125million for his signature. Spurs are sticking to their valuation of £150m for a player regarded as one of the best forwards in the world, though City are unwilling to match their asking price.

City do plan to make an improved bid before the end of the transfer window, but Pep Guardiola's side do not want to drag out the chase into next summer and have also been linked with a sensational £25m swoop for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo. 

Kane believes he was told he could leave Spurs if they failed to win a trophy or get top four 

Kane is understood to have been told he could quit Spurs this summer if the club failed to win a trophy or secure a top four finish last season. 

The club's all-time top Premier League goalscorer had held talks with Levy about his concerns over the club's direction even before last year and is said to have been unsatisfied for the last 18 months.

He has made it clear he sees his future away from north London and gave an interview with Gary Neville in May where he stated his desire to hold an 'honest' conversation with Levy about his future.

Kane admitted he would like to play with City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne and suggested the club might be tempted to sell him for £100m. 

Tottenham supporters have always had a special relationship with Kane after helping the club become regular contenders for Champions League football by firing in 221 goals in his last eight seasons.

But that relationship has threatened to turn sour amid 'confusion' over his delayed return to the squad, which the player puts down to the club's failure to explain a mix-up in communication. 

He is disappointed his repuation as a model professional has been tarnished and put out a statement insisting he would never refuse to train.

'It's almost ten years since I made my Spurs debut,' he wrote on social media. 'For every one of those years, you – the fans – have shown me total love and support.

'That's why it hurts to read some of the comments this week, questioning my professionalism.

'While I won't go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train. I will be returning to the club tomorrow [Saturday, August 7], as planned.

'I wouldn't do anything to jeopardise the relationship with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club. This has always been the case as it is today. Harry.'
