India reported over 35,000 Covid-19 infections once again, as a projected third wave looms over the country.

35,178 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 3.2 crore in the world’s second-most populous nation, according to the Health Ministry’s update on Aug. 18, 2021. However, daily infections have remained below the 40,000-mark for five days in a row.

Daily recoveries continued to eclipse new cases taking the active case load to 3.67 lakh. They now constitute 1.14% of total cases, which is the lowest since March 2020.

The daily deaths reported stayed above the 400-mark, making India one of the world's worst hit countries with a total death toll of over 4.32 lakh.
