Vadodara: Soon, you may spot cubs of white Bengal tiger playing around in the woods at the jungle safari in Kevadia. The safari authorities have brought in a white tigress that has already been kept on display. The park is already home to a 10-year-old male white tiger ‘Veer’. “Now we have a female tiger ‘Shakti’ who is about four years old. We hope that the couple breeds in the coming days,” said Dr Ram Ratan Nala, director of the park. The safari authorities had been trying to get a female white tigress and the permission for it was granted by the Central Zoo Authority within a day of getting the proposal. She has been brought to Kevadia from Indroda park in Gandhinagar. The park management is expecting more footfall to catch a glimpse of the white tiger couple. “The white tiger, an elusive Bengal tiger variant with white fur and dark stripes, has always fascinated people. Mohan was the first white tiger captured as a cub by Maharaja of Reva in Madhya Pradesh in 1951. This tiger was founding father of white tigers of Reva,” Nala added. Earlier this year, the management also brought in a black panther ‘Kaali’ and kept it in the leopard’s enclosure. The jungle safari is home to lions, tigers, leopards, rhinos and bison apart from capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkey, iguana and exotic birds. The sprawling park has about 350 exotic animals and birds while the total count is over 1,200. The park authorities have also planned to make a crocodile park that will also be home to the rescued reptiles.
