A Congress leader from Majitha constituency, Jasmitar Singh Chogawan, has accused a former sarpanch of Chogawan Mattewal village of using derogatory remarks against dalit party workers.

In a press conference here on Tuesday, Jasmitar said if the police failed to register an FIR against the said sarpanch, the party workers would gherao the Mattewal police station. He alleged that the former sarpanch had illegally occupied village land and members of the dalit community and other residents had asked him to vacate the plot.

Jasmitar alleged that the former sarpanch passed casteist remarks against the workers and a police complaint was filed against the sarpanch. “The police has taken no action despite several visits of the party workers,” he said.
