Barbra Streisand is not a fan of Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's 2018 version of A Star is Born.

The 79-year-old starred alongside Kris Kristofferson in the 1976 remake, the third version of the film. Judy Garland starred in the original in 1937, followed by Janet Gaynor in the 1954 version.

During an appearance on the Australian talk show The Sunday Project, Barbra said the latest film lacked originality.

"At first, when I heard it was going to be done again, it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyoncé, and I thought, that's interesting. Really make it different again, different kind of music, integrated actors; I thought that was a great idea."

The Memory singer said that she was surprised to see how similar it was to the version that she did and expected Bradley - who also directed the film - to change the story a bit and said she thought "it was the wrong idea".

The film was a box office hit grossing over $436 million; it garnered critical acclaim and raked in awards and nominations. Lady Gaga won the Academy for Best Original Song for Shallow.

Barbra went on to acknowledge the success of the film: "I can't argue with success, but I don't care so much about success as I do originality," she said.
