Check the grassss: Terrifying moment a huge 2.5metre python is discovered hiding in a family's lawnmower

  • Carpet python was found hiding under lawnmower at a family's home on Monday
  • A Noosa snake catcher was called to the Doonan home to collect the reptile
  • Carpet pythons are known to be secretive and camouflaged due to skin colour
  • The snake catchers were able to grab the python and will place him in bushland

A wrangler called to remove a giant carpet python from a family's backyard found the snake hiding behind a lawnmower.

Luke Huntley, who runs Snake Catcher Noosa, shared footage of the dramatic capture after being called to the home in Doonan, in Queensland's Noosa Valley.

The family only discovered they had an unwelcome visitor hiding in their backyard shed after their birds and horses started acting strangely.

In a clip of the capture shared online, Mr Huntley calmly moved around rusty tools in the shed before picking up the python from its hiding spot.

'She's stunning! I absolutely love carpet pythons,' he said as the snake flickered its tongue.

'It doesn't matter how many I catch, each one of them is so beautiful.'

He said the snake, which was close to two-and-a-half metres long, was relocated to a better-suited habitat in nearby bushland.

Carpet pythons can grow up to four metres and can easily camouflage themselves due to the colour of their skin.
