Indian worker from Telangana stuck in Kabul pleads to be evacuated | India News

HYDERABAD: A 44-year-old man from Mancherial in Telangana, stuck in Kabul, has urged that the government evacuate him. B Rajanna works as a supervisor in a construction company and had gone to Kabul on August 8. This was after he availed his annual leave and came to India on July 18. “Little did I imagine that I would be caught in this situation when I landed back in Kabul,” Rajanna told TOI from Kabul. Rajanna’s wife, daughter and other family members are concerned for his safety.
Social worker Patkuri Basanth Reddy assured the worker that he would take his issue to the notice of the government.
“On August 15, I could hear gunshots from a place not so far from where I have been put up in a camp by the company I work for,” Rajanna said.
The closure of Kabul air space and stopping of commercial flight operations have put him in a situation where he has to practically live in fear.
There is no problem for food and accommodation, but the general atmosphere is keeping him tense. The Taliban which was taking over different cities marched into Kabul on August 15 giving it complete control over the country.
Asked what made him go to Kabul when the situation was clearly emerging in the last few weeks, Rajanna said that he had not anticipated the turn of events. “We did imagine that the Taliban would sometime perhaps take control of the country but what happened in the last few days was very quick. This took us by surprise,” he said.
