Crowded and how! C-17 evacuates 640 Afghans over and above capacity

This is the highest number of people ever in C-17, a massive military cargo plane that has been operated by the U.S. and its allies for nearly three decades.

After the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan, pictures and videos of people fleeing for their lives are coming out on social media. In this episode, a surprising picture has emerged, in which hundreds of Afghan citizens can be seen sitting in a US military cargo plane. There is a huge crowd of people sitting in the plane, who are waiting to escape from Kabul to reach a safer place. Significantly, with the capture of Kabul on Sunday, the Taliban has control of almost the whole of Afghanistan.

American defense and security news site Defense One released a photo and said about 640 Afghan citizens were sitting clung in the US military plane C-17 Globemaster III. This is the highest number of people ever in C-17, a massive military cargo plane that has been operated by the U.S. and its allies for nearly three decades. US defense officials reportedly said the passengers included women and children. All these people were taken from Kabul to Qatar on Sunday. Defense One said the flight was not intended to carry such a large load. But some panicked people entered it through the half-open ramp of the C-17.

The plane was among one of those flights, which took off with hundreds of people. At the same time, other flights have taken off with an even higher number of Afghan citizens. On Monday, the restlessness of Afghan citizens fleeing the country was seen at Kabul airport. People were seen climbing on top of military planes.

Apart from this, videos from Kabul airport also surfaced, in which hundreds of people were seen running with military planes.

At the same time, a shocking video went viral on Monday in which desperate Afghans who had clung on to the underbelly of a C-17 Globemaster were seen falling down from the plane. It appeared that desperate Afghans were clinging on to either the undercarriage of the C-17 or the landing gear of the transport plane when they got flung out due to the huge G-force exerted during take-off, ANI reported.

The Taliban have captured different border crossings of the country. In such a situation, the airport is the only way left, through which people can leave the war-torn country and go to a safe place. However, the US military closed the airport on Monday after a large number of Afghan citizens arrived. The airport was once again opened in the early hours of Tuesday, an American general said. He said the command of air traffic control is also in the hands of US security forces. There was also a shooting at Kabul airport on Monday, in which five people were killed.

In other India news, the Taliban was seen enjoying rides at an amusement park after taking over Kabul.
