NEW DELHI:
BJP president JP
Nadda on Tuesday mocked
Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi on the latter’s visit to
Kerala by calling it “political tourism”.
Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president, is on a three-day visit from August 16 to his Lok Sabha constituency of
Wayanad in Kerala.
Nadda too was in Kerala on Tuesday, but virtually. He inaugurated the BJP’s newly-constructed district committee office building in
Kozhikode via video conferencing.
The BJP chief took the occasion to take a dig at Rahul Gandhi. He said Rahul Gandhi's political tourism was also happening in Kerala.
Nadda said, “He (Rahul Gandhi) lost from
Amethi, so he ran to Wayanad. Changing states doesn't change someone's behavioural patterns, intentions, and the dedication to serve people."
He further said, "I feel a lot of anguish and pain when I talk about Kerala. In spite of all the support from Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, it is not functioning as it should have. The development of Kerala has been hampered because of the political culture that has prevailed for the last three to four decades."
The BJP president said the people of Kerala have made their place across the world. However, in Kerala, all development has come to a standstill, he added.
Meanwhile, during his visit to Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi inaugurated two drinking water projects - one at Koovalathod Colony in Padinjarathara and another at Kattunaika Colony in Ponkuzhi on Monday.
Earlier in the day, the Congress leader held a review meeting with the district collector in Kalpetta, Wayanad.
