Monitoring situation in Afghanistan, discussions on with Kabul over flights: Jaishankar

New Delhi/United Nations, Aug 16 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said the government is monitoring the situation in Kabul continuously, and discussions are on to see that flights are resumed in the Afghan capital after they were suspended on Monday, leaving hundreds of people stranded.
In a series of tweets from New York, where he has gone to attend the UNSC meetings being organised by India as part of its month-long presidency, Jaishankar said that airport operations in Kabul are the main challenge.
“Monitoring the situation in Kabul continuously. Understand the anxiety of those seeking to return to India. Airport operations are the main challenge. Discussions on with partners in that regard.

“We are in constant touch with the Sikh and Hindu community leaders in Kabul. Their welfare will get our priority attention,” he said, tagging Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who had voiced concerns about the Indian community stuck in Afghanistan, and Union Minister Hardeep Puri.
Kabul airport suspended all commercial flights after thousands of people thronged the airport seeking to leave the country following the Taliban takeover.
