NEW DELHI. Reviewing the visa provisions in light of the current situation in Afghanistan, the home ministry on Tuesday has created a new e-visa category – the e-Emergency X-Miscellaneous visa -- that will allow Afghan nationals wanting to evacuate to India, to apply online.

The foreign ministry also assured that it will help members of Afghanistan's tiny Sikh and Hindu community to come to India.

"We are in constant touch with the representatives of Afghan Sikh and Hindu communities. We will facilitate repatriation to India of those who wish to leave Afghanistan," foreign ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said.

Netizens were divided whether India should only evacuate and shelter Indians and people belonging to Indic faith from Afghanistan or it should discard 'religion' or 'ethnicity' as the criteria for rehabilitation.
