Taipei, Taiwan
Taiwan-based
battery suppliers have started assembling battery modules for Taiwan's ICT
industry as the industry is not backed by enough natural resources and
well-known brands.
Taiwan is also
equipped with upstream suppliers of cathode and anode materials like Alees,
E-One Moli, Mechema, CoreMax, and Formosa Lithium Iron Oxide Corporation. These
suppliers use different technologies to provide material to customers for
producing batteries. These materials are used in ternary lithium-ion batteries
and lithium iron phosphate batteries.
Ternary
lithium-ion batteries are much in demand due to the rising popularity of Tesla.
The company has also decided that it will adopt LFP batteries for its EVs for
China. All this will lead to developments in the battery industry. The new
batteries will have features like faster charging, higher energy density,
lighter weight, and low-cost.
The world’s
first lithium-ion battery was commercialized almost 30 years ago. It is
observed that the battery industry comes up with new technology every 30 years.
The newcomers in the industry are trying to figure out EV opportunities to
develop next-generation batteries. Many of them are hopeful that solid-state
batteries will replace lithium-ion batteries.
These new batteries use solid electrolytes instead of liquid that
reduces the risks of short circuits and accidents.
ProLogium, a
Taiwan-based supplier is also into developing solid-state batteries. Some
manufacturers are of the opinion that Taiwan should build its presence in the
EV sector by developing next-generation batteries. It is also advisable
that Taiwan should seek joint development opportunities to be able to survive
in the market. It can build a noticeable presence by establishing solid-state batteries.
