Chris Cuomo Finally Discusses His Brother Andrew's Scandal, Says He Urged Him to Resign

Chris Cuomo is finally speaking out in response to his older brother Andrew Cuomo‘s sexual harassment scandal amid the news that he’s resigning as Governor of New York.

The CNN host has mostly ignored speaking about his brother on the air, saying that it’s a conflict of interest to do so.

Finally, on Monday night (August 16), Chris discussed the scandal when he returned from his vacation.

“My brother, as you know resigned as Governor of New York and will be stepping down next week. There are a lot of people feeling a lot of hurt and a lot of pain right now. My hope is that ultimately everyone involved can get to a better place, that some higher good will be served in all this,” Chris said at the end of his show.

“This situation is unlike anything I’ve imagined,” he continued. “I’m not an adviser. I’m a brother. I wasn’t in control of anything, I was there to listen, and offer my take. My advice to my brother was simple and consistent, own what you did, tell people what you will do to be better, be contrite, and finally accept that it doesn’t matter what you intended, what matters is how your actions and words were perceived.”

“And while it was not something that I ever imagined ever having to do, I did urge my brother to resign, when the time came,” he said.

Chris also talked about the criticism of his avoiding the story in recent months.

“I never misled anyone about the information I was delivering or not delivering on this program,” Chris said. “I never attacked nor encouraged anyone to attack any woman who came forward. I never made calls to the press about my brother’s situation and I never influenced or attempted to control CNN’s coverage of my family.”

Chris faced a lot of backlash earlier this year for a very different reason.
