By –election for Arithang-II ward Gangtok
By-election for Arithang-II ward under Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) is scheduled on September 17as announced by the State Election Commission (SEC).With the dates for by-election notified, the model code of conduct has also come into force, said State Election Commissioner Nima L. Yethenpa in a press meet on Monday. She was joined by SEC secretary N.T. Bhutia at the press meet.
The by-election is being conducted after the sudden demise of Late Raju Tamang, councillor of Arithang-II ward. To fill the vacant post, the by-election is being held as per the relevant provisions of Sikkim Municipalities (Code of Conduct) Rules, 2007. As per existing rules, no political party can field their candidates in municipal and panchayat election in Sikkim. All candidates are to contest as independent candidates without support of any political parties.

Central Government Agrees with SDF decision that took nearly a decade ago
Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Monday recorded his deep satisfaction and delight on Centre’s recent decision to empower State governments to make their separate list of OBCs. He pointed out that 18 years ago, the then SDF government had granted OBC status to three left-out communities of Sikkim- the Bahun, Chettri and Newar communities under the list of OBCs recognised by the Centre. The Centre has now passed a bill to empower the state and UTs to make their own separate list of OBCs.
Anju Tamang to represent in Asian Cup National Camp
Sikkim footballer Anju Tamang is selected for Indian Women’s National Team Camp to represent India in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup which is scheduled to be held in India from January 20 next year.
