To check crime rate, the government has launched Rs 3 crore pilot “Safe City Project” to install high-quality cameras in all 87 villages of Sangrur and Bhawanigarh subdivisions. After the success of the pilot project being implemented in Sangrur constituency, it would be launched across the state.

“Under the project, high-resolution cameras would be installed at every entry and exit point of all 87 villages of Sangrur and Bhawanigarh subdivisions. CCTVs will play a significant role in the prevention of crime in area. Concerned officers will also take care of their maintenance,” said cabinet minister Vijay Inder Singla, after launching the project in Sangrur on the eve of Independence Day.

Some senior officers of the police disclosed to The Tribune that total 27 villages had already been covered out of total 87 while all remaining villages will have cameras by September 30.
