Chennai, Aug 17 (UNI) By-election to one of three vacant Rajya Sabha
seats from Tamil Nadu Assembly will be held on September 13 by strictly
following the COVID-19 guidelines and maintaining social distancing
norms, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced today.
The bypoll will be held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of AIADMK
member A Mohammedjan on March 23, the ECI said in a release.
Filing of nominations will begin on August 24 with the issue of notification.
The last date for filing of nominations is August 31.
The scrutiny will take place on September one and the last date for
withdrawals is September 3.
Polling will be held on September 13 between 9 AM and 4 PM and the
counting of votes will take place same day at 5 PM.
The ECI said the Chief Secretary of the State has been directed to
depute a senior officer to ensure that the instructions regarding
COVID-19 containment measures are complied with, while making
arrangements for the conduct of the by-election.
By-elections to fill up two other vacancies, caused by the resignation
of AIADMK Members K P Munusamy and R Vaithilingam following
their election to the State Assembly, will be notified later.
