Harry and Meghan are bound to do things ‘their way’ when it comes to Lilibet’s christening, a royal expert has said

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are bound to “do things their own way” when it comes to Lilibet’s christening, an expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stirred controversy with their first child Archie’s christening as they kept the ceremony private.

Now that they have quit their lives as senior royals and moved to the US, their daughter Lilibet’s christening is bound to have the same secrecy.

Lilibet Diana, affectionately known as Lili and who is named after the Queen and after Harry’s mum Diana, was born in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California in June.

While millions of fans are dying to finally see a picture of the baby girl, the Sussexes still haven’t offered even a glimpse of what their daughter looks like.

It therefore wouldn’t be surprising if the couple, who have since moved into a £11m mansion in Montecito and repaid the cost of Frogmore, decided that her christening should also be carried out in secret.

It is unknown if Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, will want to have the ceremony in the UK or in the US but according to one royal expert, it is bound to be the latter.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Harry and Meghan’s relations with the British press went badly downhill when Archie was christened in private and the names of the godparents were not released.”

He added: “The Sussexes were emphatic that they intended to do things their own way and so it has proved.”

He continued: “It must be likely that she will be christened in California though there were rumours of a possible christening at Windsor.”

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “It seems certain that her christening will be in Meghan’s home state and with the secrecy but without the controversy that surrounded Archie’s christening.”

Relations between the Sussexes and other senior royals have been tense ever since they dramatically announced they’d be moving to the US in March last year.

Things then got worse when the couple started publicly attacking the royal family, with claims of The Firm being racist as “concerns” were raised about how dark Archie’s skin tone would be.

Meghan also accused the royal family of failing to support her when she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with Archie.

Harry has returned to the UK on only two occasions since moving to the US, namely for his granddad’s Philip’s funeral and for the unveiling of Diana’s statue on what would’ve been her 60th birthday.

Meghan stayed at home on both occasions, mainly on medical grounds as she was heavily pregnant when the funeral took place in April.

It is not known whether the Sussexes will attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year, to which they are understood to have been invited.
