Kerala: Female Doctor attacked with slippers by patient, attendant
Thiruvananthapuram: In yet another instance of violence against woman doctor in Thiruvananthapuram, a duty doctor attached to Gokulam Medical College at Attinga was verbally abused and threw slippers at by two men who sought treatment at the facility on the night of August 14.
This is the second incident of attack on a lady doctor within two weeks in Thiruvananthapuram. Earlier, a lady doctor at the Fort Taluk hospital in Thiruvananthapuram was attacked by two men who twisted her arm and assaulted the security as well when the doctor asked them to wait.
In the latest incident traumatizing the young doctor, two men arrived at the hospital for treatment as one of them had injured his hand. When the doctor asked them to leave the footwear outside the sterilized room, they allegedly got provoked and misbehaved with the doctor. They started hurling abusive at her, and threw footwear towards her. The medico dodged the slippers, and it hit the nurse who was standing next to her.
As per a recent media report by Mathrubhumi, the duo allegedly tried to attack the doctor and the nurse. However, the security staff at the hospital intervened and successfully rescued the healthcare workers. "When we called police to the spot they ran away," an official of the hospital told the daily.
Eventually, a case was lodged against the accused identified as Attingal natives Anas and Samad with the Attingal police. On Sunday morning the duo was arrested by the police.
The men have been booked under section 294 (b) (sings, recites, or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place) of the Indian Penal Code and under sections pertaining to the prohibition of violence of Kerala Healthcare Service Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, reports The News Minute.
Meanwhile, the Chirayinkeezhu unit of IMA expressed their protest over the incident.
