- Kaizer Chiefs have four goalkeepers at their disposal as the new domestic campaign gets under way.
- Head coach Stuart Baxter opted for familiarity and experience as Itumeleng Khune was given the armband against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
- However, the Scotsman says that he is "comfortable" with selecting any of the four goalkeepers.
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has held his cards close to his chest when queried whether Itumeleng Khune will remain a starter at the club.
The Glamour Boys' goalkeeping department is healthy, with Khune, Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma all vying to claim a starting berth for domestic matches.
Added to that, Amakhosi lured former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits glovesman, Brandon Petersen, to Naturena in the off-season.
For the start of the domestic campaign over the weekend, Baxter opted for veteran shotstopper Khune to stand between the posts for Amakhosi on Sunday in their MTN8 quarter-final defeat against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
The match went all the way to a penalty shootout after the scores were deadlocked at 2-2, and Baxter said after the match that any of his goalkeepers could start for Chiefs.
"We've got four goalkeepers that on any given day could be the number one," Baxter said during the post-match press conference.
"This is not about rotation or mix and match. This is about choosing the goalkeeper who is playing well, that's in the best shape and suits the opponent.
"If Itu [Khune] plays outstandingly, then we'll not be rotating, but if we feel Itu has gone off the boil or one of the others are playing outstandingly and he will suit the next opponent better, then we'll make the change."
Baxter continued: "I have four [goalkeepers] who I'm very comfortable with, each being the number one.
"I'll listen to Lee [Baxter], the goalkeeper coach and the opinions of the rest of the staff and discuss that about the upcoming opponents and make the best decision for that game.
"The competition is healthy. It's unhealthy if Itu is put on the sidelines, and he's all over social media and has a bad attitude in training, which is not the case.
"None of them are like that. Everyone is committed and supports the other no matter who it may be."
Amakhosi are back in action on Sunday against TS Galaxy as the DStv Premiership gets underway.
Kick-off is at 15:00.
