Taliban enter Afghan presidential palace, hold press conference

Kabul, Aug 15 (UNI) With President Ashraf Ghani having left the country, signaling the collapse of the government, the Taliban on Sunday evening entered the lavish presidential palace, and were seen seated in the luxurious gold-framed and cushioned chairs and divans, helping themselves to food.

Meanwhile, a news website said that the Taliban have declared Maulana Abdul Ghani as Afghanistan's new President.

“Maulana Abdul Ghani declared as Afghanistan's new President,” said The Nation.

In a press conference, the Taliban said that their fighters have taken control of all government headquarters in Kabul.

Videos circulating on social media, showed the Taliban militia, dressed in shalwar-kameez with their Kalashnikovs slung from their shoulders, helping themselves to food and relaxing.
