KALYAN: The union minister of state (MoS)
Kapil Patil on Monday thanked prime minister Narendra Modi for giving a cabinet berth to a representative from Thane district for the first time and putting an end to the district's 74 years vanvas.
Patil, while ending his
Jan Ashirwad Yatra for the day in
Kalyan (East) which he starting from Thane city, said, "I am really thankful to prime minister Narendra Modi who gave justice to bhumiputra (local) from Thane district by giving me a cabinet berth and ended our 74 years vanvas (demand).
Patil who comes from the Agri community, which has a stronghold in Thane district, during his entire yatra, was seen trying to woo Agri and other locals communities which were earlier associated with
BJP's former ally Shiv Sena.
During the press conference, Patil once again raised the issue of naming the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport after DB Patil, saying," I will meet chief minister Uddhav Thackeray asking him to name the airport after DB Patil to give justice to locals here."
Hundreds of activists of BJP led by local leaders including former state minister Ravindra Chavan, MLC Niranjan Davkhare, MLA Sanjay Kelkar, Ganpat Gaikwad, and Kumar Ailani were present to welcome Patil during the yatra.
The four days yatra started on Monday will end on 20 August.
