Nine News reporter Brett McLeod has offloaded his corner-store conversion in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.

Brett and his wife, Louise, were looking for between $2.7million and $2.9million for their four-bedroom home, but sold for $3.29million in an online auction on Saturday, reports Domain.

The property is a converted general store which the McLeod family purchased for $880,000 in 2005, after Brett returned to Australia following his first stint as Nine's Europe correspondent.

They decided to sell because the veteran journalist, 58, is preparing to return to Nine's London bureau.

The house has four bedrooms as well as a number of large living areas which used to serve as shop floor space. 

A unique feature of the exterior is a large rainbow 'Yes' artwork on the side, which was painted by the McLeods' daughter during the marriage equality postal survey in 2017. 

Brett said it was his daughter's idea to paint the mural, which has since become a 'tourist attraction' in the area.

'When the marriage equality vote was coming up, she asked if she and friend could paint a "Yes" on the wall – and we said, "Yes,"' he told realestate.com.au.  

'It has become something of a tourist attraction. Most weekends there's someone taking a photo out the front of it.

'Sometimes bridal parties turn up to get their photos done.'

The façade of the building still bears the original shop's name, Shamrock Store, complete with blue tiling.

The dwelling was also previously an art gallery before becoming a home. 

The McLeods, who have three grown-up children, Jackson, Alexander and Olivia, will now move to London after their home was auctioned off on August 14.
