Homegrown automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors has announced that they will be giving an Altroz premium hatchback to the Indian players of the Olympics who missed a medal. The Altroz will be gifted to players who missed the bronze medal because they have inspired others and have set a standard that others can follow.

Players of the women’s hockey team, golfer Aditi Ashok and wrestler Deepak Punia missed the bronze medal at the Olympics that was held in Tokyo, Japan. All these players will be given the Altroz premium hatchback finished in High Street Gold colour. The engine option that the players will be getting is not known.

Engine Options

The Altroz is available in three engine options. There is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. As of now, there is no automatic transmission available. You can only get a 5-speed manual gearbox with all the engines. The turbocharged engine also gets two driving modes, namely City and Sport.

The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 86 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 113 Nm. This is the same engine that we have seen on the Tiago and Tigor. The turbocharged petrol engine puts out 110 PS of max power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine produces 90 PS of max power and 200 Nm of peak torque. It is detuned unit derived from the Nexon compact SUV.

Price and competitors

The Altroz starts at Rs. 5.84 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 9.59 lakhs ex-showroom. It competes against Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.

There is also a Dark Edition available of the Altroz that is priced at Rs. 9.35 lakhs ex-showroom for the XZ Plus Turbo whereas the XZ Plus costs Rs. 8.70 lakhs ex-showroom.

The Altroz is the safest hatchback that you can get in the Indian market. It has a 5-star global NCAP crash test rating. It gets dual airbags, rear parking sensors with camera, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, cornering stability control and a lot more.
