A tragedy got averted when a portion of an old and unsafe building near Neem Wala Chowk collapsed here today. The debris fell on the street but the MC officials said no one was present there at the time of the incident.

A resident alleged that some work was going on in the old building and they had complained to the civic body about this but no action was taken. Kunal Sachdeva, a resident, said the building was very old and its portion collapsed today. He said, “The area residents had complained to the MC about the work going on in the building but the complaint was ignored. Now, the incident took place. After the incident, police had also reached the site.”

ATP Mohan Singh said the building was around 100 years’ old and it was unsafe.

He said the building owner was getting the unsafe building portion demolished on his own when a structure collapsed. “The debris fell on the street but no one was present there. There is no report of any damage to life or property in the incident,” he added.
