Application process for admissions in DSEU to close on Aug 17
The application process for admissions in Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) will close on Tuesday and the varsity is expected to release the merit list of its degree courses by this month-end, an official statement said on Monday. The university opened its admissions process to 15 full-time Diploma courses such as Fashion Design, Tool and Dye Making, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Aesthetics and Beauty Therapy, Facilities and Hygiene Management among others. Three held for extortion from vendors in Noida
Three young men were arrested on Monday for allegedly extorting money from street-side vendors at a market in Noida, police said. The accused had been intimidating and threatening to harm the vendors at the Sector 117 market who did not pay them money, the officials said. (PTI)

Transport minister flags off fleet of 32 buses
Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday flagged off a fleet of 32 low-floor AC buses from the Rajghat Depot. The buses were flagged off under the cluster scheme of the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd. (DIMTS). Gahlot said the new buses are equipped with state-of-the-art features including panic buttons, GPS, and CCTV cameras with live-streaming facility for emergency situations. (PTI)
Delhi govt invites bids for retail liquor licences for 12 zones
After a successful auction of liquor stores in the city grossing over Rs 5,300 crore, Delhi government's excise department has floated fresh tenders for 12 zones that failed to attract bidders in the previous attempt earlier this month. On August 13, the department invited fresh bids for grant of 12 zonal retail licences for supply of Indian and Foreign Liquor (except country liquor) in Delhi during the year 2021-22. (PTI)

Delhi records maximum temperature of 37.4 deg C
Delhi on Monday recorded a minimum and maximum temperature of 27.3 and 37.4 degrees Celsius, respectively, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The relative humidity recorded at 5.30pm was 49%. The weather department has predicted partly cloudy skies for Tuesday. The national capital is expected to witness another warm day on Tuesday with temperature rising as high as 38 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to settle around 26 degrees Celsius, the weather department has predicted. Man, woman set themselves on fire in front of Supreme Court
A man and a woman set themselves ablaze in front of the Supreme Court complex in Delhi on Monday, but were rescued by police and bystanders and rushed to hospital. Their motive was yet unclear. Panic broke out outside gate number D at around 1220pm after the duo tried to get into the top court premises. Spotting that the duo had set themselves ablaze, Delhi Police personnel rushed to their rescue. Water was poured on the woman who was engulfed in flames and she fell on the ground. A group of persons, along with the police personnel, then rushed to rescue the man. (IANS)
Haryana CM flags off e-autorickshaws in Gurugram
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday launched the first electric three-wheeler ecosystem project in Gurugram by flagging off 600 e-autorickshaws in Galeria Market area, Sector-28. Under the 'Parivartan' project, 5,000 diesel three-wheelers will be replaced in Gurugram and other metropolitan cities of Haryana, Khattar said during the inauguration. (IANS)
Delhi riots: Police seek time to argue UAPA bail plea
A court in Delhi on Monday adjourned the hearing on the bail application of former Congress councillor Ishrat Jahan in the Delhi riots conspiracy case till August 20, after the prosecutor sought more time and said that he cannot “talk in the air”. Jahan, along with several others, has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the case and they are accused of being the "masterminds" of the February 2020 violence, which had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured. The Delhi high court on Monday sought response of the Centre and Delhi government on a plea seeking to direct them to appoint four members of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) so that the quorum of 13 members is complete for its efficacious functioning. Justice Rekha Palli issued notices to the Centre, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi government and New Delhi Municipal Council on the petition by two residents of the NDMC area. (PTI)
Man held for impersonating CBI inspector
A man has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official, police said Monday. The accused, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, was arrested in southwest Delhi's Kishangarh area Sunday, they said. On Independence Day, police deployed at Sanjay van, Aruna Asaf Ali Road, signalled to stop Yadav, who was riding a motorcycle, but he tried to escape. (PTI)
HC grants anticipatory bail to man accused of pronouncing triple talaq
The Delhi high court has granted anticipatory bail to a man accused of pronouncing triple talaq on his wife and gave him six weeks' time to deposit Rs four lakhs towards the upbringing of two daughters. Justice Mukta Gupta said that pre-arrest bail was subject to the man joining the investigation and directed him to inform the court concerned in case of change of mobile number and/or the residential address.
