WI vs PAK LIVE 1st Test Day 2- Stumps: Brathwaite, Holder lead West Indies fight back, take slender lead on Pakistan- WI 251/8 – Follow live updates- Kraigg Brathwaite agonisingly missed out on a well deserved century as the West Indian captain led his team’s fightback on Day 2. Reeling at 100/5, the opener combined with Jason Holder to ensure that the hosts eclipsed Pakistan’s first innings score of 217, powering the team to a 34-run lead at Stumps. With Joshua Da Silva still at the crease, West Indies will aim to stretch their advantage to over 50 runs and put some pressure on Babar Azam’s side.

Shaheen Afridi, Mohd Abbas-led Pakistan pacers had left West Indies struggling in their first innings. He took a couple of wickets in the 38th over as West Indies were reduced to half side with 100 runs on the scorecard. Earlier, Kieron Powell and Nkrumah Bonner registered ducks to give Pakistan an early edge over the hosts.

On the other hand, WI skipper Kraigg Brathwaite is playing captains’ knock in the first innings on Day 2 against Pakistan of the first Test innings. He scored his fifty comprising 7 boundaries. His partnerships with Roston Chase and Jason Holder proved to be pivotal before a run-out saw the end of his stay at the crease.

Pakistan gearing up for Day 2

WI vs PAK LIVE 1st Test Day 2: Abbas leads Pakistan’s fightback after flop show with the bat, WI 2/2; follow live updates

West Indies 2 for 2 (Brathwaite 1*, Abbas 2-0) trail Pakistan 217 (Fawad 56, Holder 3-26, Seales 3-70) by 215 runs. On Day 1 of the 1st test match – after being shot out for paltry 217, Pakistan fought back with two wickets for just two runs before the end of day’s play. Earlier Fawad Alam and Faheem Ashraf helped Pakistan to post 217.

It was an 85-run partnership between the duo that rescued Pakistan from deep mess. Fawad top scored with 56, and Ashraf contributed 44.

West Indies vs Pakistan Day 1: It is difficult to take issue with a day of Test match cricket when you win the toss, field first and bowl the opposition out within the day for 217, but West Indies will realise they might have easily have had a much firmer grasp on this Test match by now. But two quick wicket at the end of Day’s play spoiled their day.

Babar Azam: Toss is not in our hands, unfortunately. We have four quicks, one spinner and six batsmen. We have practised hard and we are looking forward to this Test series. Winning always gives you confidence and we are confident of doing well in this series.

Kraigg Brathwaite: We are gonna have a bowl first. The pitch has a bit of moisture. We want to make use of that moisture. There are two changes from the last Test. The guys are raring to go. It’s not going to be easy but we are looking forward to the challenge.

WI vs PAK 1st Test: Pitch condition

With the geographical conditions of the venue- being the driest part of Kingston, Sabina Park had earlier been one of the hardest and fastest pitches in West Indies. This means that the turf was a boon for Windies high-arm tall bowlers back then.

Cut to now, the of late years have witnessed Sabina Park’s turf undergoing a massive metamorphosis. Unlike before, the surface has slowed down. Clearly, the turf will assist spin bowlers and will trouble the batsmen as will come slightly late on to the bat.
