PUNE: Mayor Muralidhar Mohol has said that Ganesh Mandals in the city have resolved to celebrate forthcoming Ganesh festival in a simple way in the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic and possibility of a third wave. Mohol conveyed a meeting of Ganesh Mandals at Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) which was also attended by the leaders of various political parties and city police authorities. The office bearers of the Ganesh Mandals during the meeting expressed their views on simple celebrations. Mohol said that the city had celebrated Ganesh festival in a simple manner in 2020 because of the pandemic. He said, “Most Ganesh Mandals resolved to go ahead with simple celebrations like last year. The Mandals were also in favour of not going for the processions. We are thankful to the Ganesh Mandals for their decision of simple celebrations”. Mohol also appealed to the citizens for immersion of Ganesh idols at homes. He said that the PMC is planning to set up about 150 temporary tanks for the immersion of Ganesh idols. He also said that an online system is being set up for the Mandals to obtain the permissions for the Mandaps. The Ganesh Mandal workers will not have to visit PMC offices to get the necessary permissions, he added.
