Covid tally in Odisha surges to 9,93,507with fresh 1,132 cases, 66 more deaths

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14 (UNI) The Covid tally in Odisha has surged to 9,93,507 with the detection of 1,132 fresh cases from 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

During the period 66 more covid patients succumbed to the virus taking the total fatalities in the state to 6823.

The recovery rose to 9,75,999,a little over 98 per cent of the total tally with 1,243 more people recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours.

The daily Test Positivity Rate(TPR) in the state remained below 2 per cent continuously for nine days in a row with a marginal decline in the last three days.

Official sources said the TPR slightly declined to 1.64 per cent from 1.68 recorded on Friday with all the 30 districts registering the TPR less than 5 per cent.

Khordha district has recorded the highest TPR of 3.5 per cent followed by 3 per cent in Jagatsinghpur district. At least 19 of the total 30 districts have reported TPR less than one per cent.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said of the 1,132 new infections reported in the state in the past 24 hours, 657 were reported from the quarantine centres and 475 as local contact cases.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 410 cases followed by 197 in Cuttack district.These two coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 53 per cent of new cases recorded in the past 24 hours.

As many as 12 districts in the state reported single digit new covid cases in the past 24 hours while Nuapada district has zero infection

Both Khordha and Cuttack districts have together recorded 5215 active cases which is 49.05 percent of the total active cases in the state.

There has been no let up in the daily fatalities in the state as since July 8 last on an average more than 60 people are succumbing to the virus despite a sharp decline in the daily Covid load.

Sources said out of 66 deaths reported from 15 districts in the state in the past 24 hours, Cuttack district recorded the highest number of 15 fatalities followed by Kendrapara ( 9), Ganjam ( 8),five each in Angul and Balasore and 4 in Nabarangpur.
