Chandigarh, August 13

In a turn of events, Pardeep Chhabra, a former president of the Chandigarh Congress, joined the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi today.

Chhabra, a former Mayor, had resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party last week.

For the past six months, Chhabra had been at loggerheads with incumbent city Congress head Subhash Chawla. In February this year, the party high command had replaced Chhabra with Chawla. Chhabra has been attacking Chawla and former Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal since he was removed from the post of the city party president.

Chhabra said he had joined the AAP unconditionally and he would not fight the forthcoming municipal elections scheduled to be held later this year. Chhabra also said he would work to strengthen the AAP. — TNS
