A female patient has died due to the Delta Plus variant in Mumbai, due to which the team of scientists has started investigating. Scientists at the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, have started genome sequencing of samples and tests within a radius of about five km around the patient's family and home.
At the same time, scientists say that there is not enough evidence to spread the delta plus variant in society, but these serious variants cannot be ignored either.
Senior Scientist Dr. Pragya Yadav said that there are five variants under Delta Plus. The Y1 variant was found in the woman who died of the infection. This variant has also been found in some members of his family.
Delta is dangerous even after taking both doses
Variants of Delta can prove fatal even after taking both doses. Therefore people are being advised to adopt vigilance even after vaccination.
He said that so far it has become clear in clinical studies that both Covishield and Covaxin are effective on vaccine delta, but these variants also cause low antibodies, which increases the risk of a person getting infected again or after vaccination.
Dr. Yadav said that the situation is quite a under control now. There have been some cases in Mumbai for which investigation is going on, but the only appeal to the people is to follow the Kovid vigilance rules.
