If you are an avid social media user, then you must’ve come across the video of a Muslim man being assaulted by three men and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram. In the video, the man’s little girl can be seen latching onto him and sobbing at the continuing assault on her father. The latest update in the case of this video is that the three men have been arrested. And released on bail in just a few hours, Kanpur police said on Friday. If the video of the beating hadn’t incensed people, the quick release of it has enraged people further.
A video was also doing rounds on the internet and circulated with the claim that soon after the arrest of Rahul Kumar, Ajay and Aman Gupta, Bajrang Dal members staged a protest outside the police station on Thursday night and demanded their release.
As soon as the three arrested were released, social media was flooded with fuming comments. Some users linked it to the quick release of the people who organised a meeting in Jantar Mantar last Sunday which led to inflammatory communal sloganeering. The user further said only people who belong to Dalit or Muslim community are meant to follow the law, others move free.
Another user said that our law is keeping the innocents locked up and letting the goons roam free so that they can propagate hate in this country.
Yet another user said that if the accused is Muslim, then no bail, they get locked up for years in jail without trial. On the other hand, if the accused is Hindu, then they get immediate bail.

What happened with Afsar Ahmad, an e-rickshaw driver?
The e-rickshaw driver, Afsar Ahmad, had a feud with his Hindu neighbour. However, it became ugly and they accused him of a conversion attempt and also alleged that he was molesting their daughter. Later, Bajrang Dal members got involved in this case and said that they went there to save a daughter from religious conversion.
Ahmad in his FIR said that he was driving his e-rickshaw around 3 PM when his neighbours and the accused people came in front of him and stopped him. Not only this, they also threatened him that they will kill him and his family. In his report, he also said that this was because of the old dispute between him and his neighbours.
Ahmad’s relatives said the dispute was because one of their family accidentally brushed his vehicle against the neighbour’s, leading to the quarrel.
