A man who was unable to escape from his Jeep when it caught fire in a three-vehicle wreck on northbound Interstate 75 near Hopple Street is dead, Cincinnati police said.

The Hamilton County Coroner's office is working to identify a man killed Thursday in a fiery crash on Interstate 75.

Cincinnati police said the man was unable to escape from his Jeep when it caught fire in a three-vehicle wreck near Hopple Street.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, after officers responded to the crash on the interstate about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

They said a 29-year-old man driving a 2020 Ford EcoSport north on I-75  failed to keep enough room between his SUV and a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee ahead of him.

He struck the Jeep, police said, and the Jeep struck a 2015 Mazda 6 being driven by a 36-year-old man.

"The Jeep caught fire and became engulfed in flames. The driver was unable to escape and was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said.

The driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt. The other two drivers were buckled up and treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the wreck, but said excessive speed and impairment do not appear to be involved.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to call officers at 513-352-2514.
