Kerala local body polls: LDF wins 8 wards, UDF 7

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) won eight wards and the United Democratic Front (UDF) managed to bag seven wards in the byelections held to 15 local body wards in the state.
While the UDF won four sitting seats of the LDF, the latter has won three sitting seats of the UDF.
The byelections were held to 11 grama panchayat wards in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts, one block panchayat ward in Malappuram district and three municipality wards in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Wayanad districts, on Wednesday.
Wards won by the LDF are: Kalanjoor (Pathanamthitta), Pazheri (Sulthan Bathery municipality, Valiyamala (Nedumangad), Parassery west (Thalakkad), Muttar (Alappuzha), Veerpad (Aralam), Choorathodu (Vengoor) and Kallunira (Valayam panchayat). Wards won by the UDF are: Elikkulam (Kottayam), Cherukavu (Malappuram), Mudappilassery (Wandoor), Vazhikkadavu (Nilambur), Kozhippilli (Varappetty panchayat), sixth ward (Maradi) and division five (Piravom municipality).
