Geico Auto Insurance Coverage
As a full-service provider, Geico offers the six standard types of car insurance:
Geico also offers some additional coverage options that set it apart from other providers.
Geico Car Insurance | Details |
---|---|
Roadside Assistance | Roadside assistance coverage is available for a small fee – you can get it for as little as $14 per year. It includes jump-starts, spare tire installation, towing to a repair shop, and lockout services up to $100. |
Rental Car Reimbursement | This coverage pays for costs of a rental car while your own car is being repaired after a covered claim. Geico works with Enterprise Rent-A-Car, which means your insurance will pay Enterprise directly. |
Mechanical Breakdown Insurance | Geico mechanical breakdown insurance is similar to an extended warranty. Under an MBI plan, Geico will pay for repairs to any covered mechanical part on your car. This excludes wear and tear, tune-ups, and maintenance items. Your car is only eligible if it is under 15 months old or has fewer than 15,000 miles. |
Rideshare Insurance | If you drive for Uber or Lyft, you're covered while waiting for, driving to, and carrying passengers.
|
While other roadside assistance plans may offer more service options, Geico's plan covers the basics at an affordable price. Compared to AAA’s cost of $50 to $100 per year, it's a pretty good deal for those who are insured by Geico. Overall, customers that have left Geico auto insurance reviews seem pleased with the variety of coverage.
Geico Cost And Discounts
Compared to other leading providers, Geico auto insurance is affordable. Our review team reached out for a sample quote for a 25-year-old female driver with a 2016 Honda Fit with 50,000 miles. We were quoted just $294 for a six-month Geico insurance policy, or about $49 per month.
Here's a look at another Geico quote we received for a married couple, ages 30 and 31, who drive a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado with 50,000 miles and a 2012 Toyota RAV-4 with 120,000 miles. Because the Colorado is financed, it requires collision and comprehensive coverage, while the RAV-4 does not.

Geico Auto Insurance Reviews And Ratings
Geico has strong reviews for its easy claims process and helpful customer service. In the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Auto Insurance StudySM, Geico earned a satisfaction ranking above the regional average in California, the Central region, and New England. The insurer used to rank higher in this survey, but satisfaction scores have dipped some lately.
Still there are many positive Geico insurance reviews on sites like Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). On the BBB website, Gieco has an A+ rating, indicating that it promptly responds to customer complaints.
Positive Geico Auto Insurance Reviews
"I've used Geico for the last [seven] years, and they have done a great job for me. No issues with claims. No reactive rate hikes after claims. Great communication. I'd recommend this company."
-Mark C. via BBB
"I have been with this insurance company for [nine] years now, and they have always been so great to work with! They help every time I call and are always so friendly. I am proud to call them my insurance company. When I was in my first accident, they made the whole process so easy and got me into a rental within the next business day."
-C.J. Fritz via BBB
Negative Geico Auto Insurance Reviews
While Geico has positive comments from customers overall, the company has received some complaints in Geico auto insurance reviews too.
"Terrible company if you ever have to file a claim... When it was determined that six months later that an engine failure was most likely due to previous damage to work done under [a] previous claim, they were entirely unresponsive. They refused to even come and see the vehicle damage at the dealership."
-Toure P. via BBB
"Geico really takes [their] time with handling claims. You may save money with Geico, but you waste a lot of time. I responded to a ridiculous total loss amount for my car (barely half of what I paid for [the] vehicle and not even half of what [it was] valued at) at 11:00 AM and was told that he would review everything on Tuesday. Today is Friday!"
-Brittaney P. via BBB
Compared to other insurers, Geico’s online customer review profile is good. However, Geico’s ratings aren’t the best in the industry, and quality can vary depending where you live. If you’re considering a policy with Geico, be sure to research Geico insurance reviews specific to your state or city.
Geico Auto Insurance Apps
With Geico Mobile, you can view insurance documents, pay bills, file claims, and request roadside assistance. More than two million reviewers give the app a 4.8-star rating in the App Store. Depending on your plan, the app also has the functionality to schedule damage inspections, rentals, and repairs.
Geico's other app is DriveEasy®, a usage-based driving program that became available in some states in 2019. The app tracks things like distracted driving, hard braking, and time spent on the road. Unlike Progressive’s Snapshot, it can't raise your car insurance rates, but it can lower them. The app only has a 2.3-star rating in the App Store, with negative Geico insurance reviews noting that their phone battery life is significantly lowered while using the app.
So far, DriveEasy is available in the following states:
Arizona |
Colorado | Connecticut |
District of Columbia | Florida | Illinois |
Indiana | Iowa | Louisiana |
Kentucky | Maryland | North Carolina |
Nevada | New Jersey | New Mexico |
Ohio | Oklahoma | Oregon |
Pennsylvania | Tennessee | Texas |
Utah | Virginia | Wisconsin

Other Recommended Providers
While Geico is a reliable option for most drivers, we encourage getting quotes from multiple providers so you can compare coverage and rates. In addition to the insurance company you choose, factors such as your age, vehicle make and model, and driving history can affect your premium, so what’s best for your neighbor might not be best for you.
If you're looking for a few more insurance companies to compare with Geico, check out USAA, Progressive, and State Farm.
