Yes, she can! Lovlina Borgohain assured India of medal at the Tokyo Olympics!

Assam's Lovlina won her quarterfinal bout against Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei in the Women's Welter (64-69kg) category in style, with a 4:1 split decision in her favour.

Lovlina, in red, began confidently and used her height advantage in her favour to negate her opponent's attacks. The referee was forced to intervene as the two boxers got entangled quite often. However, Lovlina won the second round unanimously and ended the third on a high to come out on top. This is a superb display by the 23 year old against Chen Nien-Chin, who is the World Championship gold medallist and had won all the 3 previous bouts between the two. Great time to break the jinx!

Eventually, Lovlina Borgohain lost to Turkish top seed Busenaz Surmeneli in her semifinal bout at the Tokyo Olympics. The 23 year old had already scripted history by becoming the first woman from Assam to participate in the Olympics. All of India was cheering for her and she added the icing on the cake by bringing home India's third medal, a bronze, on Day 13 at Tokyo 2020. She is determined to change the colour of her medal at Paris 2024.

Lovlina is the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics. Six-time world champion Mary Kom secured Bronze at London 2012 and Vijender Singh clinched Bronze at Beijing 2008.
