CHANDIGARH : The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) held a meeting on Thursday to finalise the panel of senior Haryana IPS officers for the appointment of the DGP (state police chief) to replace Manoj Yadava. The commission is understood to have cleared the panel of three IPS officers of Haryana cadre, one from the 1988 batch and two from the 1989 batch, and, as is the custom, has left it the final choice to the Haryana government to appoint the next state police head.
As per information, the UPSC has shortlisted the names of Prashanta Kumar Aggarwal (1988 batch), Muhammad Akil (1989 batch), and Ramesh Chandra Mishra (1989). Aggarwal is a native of Bihar and both Akil and Mishra belong to Uttar Pradesh.
UPSC has not shortlisted DGP Kapoor for top post
Aggarwal is currently posted as DGP (state vigilance bureau), Akil, a native of Aligarh, is the DGP (crime) with the additional charge of director, State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB), and Mishra, from Fatehpur, is DGP-cum-MD, Haryana Police Housing Corporation and has additional charge of director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Madhuban.
Aggarwal will retire in June 2023, Mishra in June 2024, and Akil has a long tenure left as his date of superannuation is December 31, 2025.
Sources revealed that the Khattar government would soon declare one of three names in the UPSC panel for the coveted top police post in the state. The vacancy of state police chief had occurred after the request of current incumbent Manoj Yadava for repatriation to his parent cadre of Intelligence Bureau at the Centre.
Surprisingly, the name of Shatrujeet Kapoor, currently posted as DGP (prisons) and principal secretary, department of transport, is understood not to have been shortlisted by the UPSC. The 1990 batch officer, Kapoor is among the favourite officers of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and was considered the frontrunner for the prestigious appointment, if he were to be shortlisted by the commission.
