Daily covid load rising in Odisha, 1193 new cases found in past 24 hours

Bhubaneswar, Aug 13 (UNI) The daily covid load in Odisha has been showing a rising trend with the detection of 1193 new infections in the past 24 hours.
For the last five days, there has been a rise in the number of covid positive cases. On August 8 last the state witnessed 886 covid positive cases which have gone up to 1193 in the past 24 hours.
Official sources said of the 1193 new cases, 695 were found from the quarantine centres and 498 s local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the state.
However, two coastal Odisha districts such as Khordha and Cuttack alone have accounted for nearly 50 per cent of the total cases reported in the past 24 hours.
While Khordha registered the highest number of 425 new positive cases, the Cuttack district recorded 161 new cases. The other 28 districts, however, reported less than 100 cases.
Health and Family Welfare department sources said 60 covid patients under treatment in various hospitals succumbed to the virus pushing the total fatalities in the state to 6757.
Of the 60 fatalities, the Bargarh district in Western Odisha reported the maximum number of 13 deaths followed by Cuttack ( 11), Bolangir (6) and five each in Jagatsinghpur, Angul and Sambalpur districts.
The active cases in the state were marginally reduced to 10,809. Khordha and Cuttack districts together accounted for 47.9 per cent of total active cases in the state.
The Test Positivity Rate in the state recorded 1.68 per cent in the past 24 hours. The highest positivity rate of 3.5 per cent was reported from the Khordha district.
The TPR below one per cent was found from 19 districts in the state.
Official sources said till midnight of August 12, as high as 1,68,88,487 tests were conducted in the state and 9,92.375 people of them were tested covid positive of which already 9,74,756 had been cured of the virus registering 98,2 per cent.
